Alan Carlyle

Alan has been very active in the Christchurch pipe band community since learning to play the side drum in 1996 at the age of 45.
Alan has played in many solo contests and, for 15 years, was involved with two competing bands: the Riccarton Highland Pipe Band and the Canterbury Caledonian Society's Grade 4 Band. At different times, he was drum sergeant of both bands.
His pipe band career has also included:

tutoring several South Island drum corps

Drum Major of the City of Christchurch Highland Pipe Band for eight years

attending 16 summer schools in both New Zealand and Canada
Alan joined the Pipes and Drums of Christchurch City in 2009 as a side drummer. He has been on nearly all the band's tours and was appointed Drum Major in 2019.
