Douglas McDonald
Piper
Doug resides in Blenheim NZ, and has been a member of the band since 2019 when the band travelled to Edinburgh. Doug started learning the pipes in 1960 when just nine years old. He was active in solo competitions while at school and later went on to play in a number of Southland bands. These included Otautau and Districts and the old Tuatapere band. Doug was Pipe Major when the Waimatuku Highland Pipe Band came runner-up in grade 2 at the national contest. A real highlight was the three years he spent in City of Invercargill under Pipe Major Lewis Turrell.
Doug was a sheep farmer in Southland for most of his life but now lives in retirement with wife Heather in Blenheim.
