Jock Scott
Piper
Jock is a sheep farmer at Naseby in Central Otago.
His family has a great piping tradition. His father is a past president of the Royal New Zealand Pipe Band Association, and his two brothers were also pipers.
Jock joined the Maniototo Highland Pipe Band in 1963 at the age of 13 and has been Pipe Major since 1969. This amounts to 51 years at the time of writing, which is possibly a New Zealand record. During that time, his big highlight was when the band won the C Grade Championship at the New Zealand Pipe Band Contest in 1975.
Jock competed in solo competitions for a number of years and had some success as a B grade soloist. He has tutored many pipers and has a son, Andrew, who is a competent piper.
Jock has been a member of the Pipes and Drums of Christchurch City since it began in 2009.
Tours with the band: 2017 Norfolk Virginia, 2016 Wellington NZ, 2015 Edinburgh, 2011 Crete, 2010 Windsor London, 2009 Libya.
