Peter was a piper in the Pipes and Drums of Christchurch City from 2009 until he retired from playing in 2017.  He also served as vice-president for many years.

Peter made a distinguished contribution to the New Zealand pipe band movement during his 64-year piping career.  He was a member of the following bands:

• Hutt Valley Pipe Band (1954-60)

• Pipes and Drums 1st Battalion, New Zealand Regiment (1961-1963)

• The Scottish Society of New Zealand Pipe Band (1965-72)

• The Manawatu Scottish Society Pipe Band (1972-77)

• The City of Dunedin highland Pipe Band (1977-81)

• The City of Wellington Highland pipe Band (1981 to 1990) (2013-17)

• The Pipes and Drums of Horowhenua (2002-12)
